How Ubud differs from Seminyak

Rayjin Ubud

The food will feel familiar to anyone who knows the Seminyak original. The mood is different. The Seminyak room is loud and high-energy, while Ubud is calmer and more intimate, with dark tropical wood, low lighting and quieter music. Guests often choose it for a romantic dinner or a small celebration.

“Ubud guests like to take their time, so the room is quieter than Seminyak and the menu goes deeper into sushi. I often start a table with the Sushi Aburicious, a set of nigiri we sear with a torch, and follow it with a steak from the teppan. You taste the same idea twice, fire on fish and fire on beef, and it tells you a lot about how we cook.”, Chef, Rayjin Ubud

Where to sit

Rayjin Ubud

The teppan counter is the seat for first-time teppanyaki guests, couples, and anyone who came to watch the chef. Seats run side by side facing the grill, with the best view of the cooking and easy conversation with the chef. The upstairs sushi bar suits groups who mainly want sushi and sashimi, and it is quieter than the counter. The private room works best for birthdays, anniversaries and family dinners. Counter seats fill first at dinner, so name the seat you want when you book.

A dinner for two: the Sushi Aburicious, a Salmon Nori Taco, the Meltique Steak, a 100 g Garlic Rice and Apple Pie Gyoza to finish. That is Rp 666,000 on the menu, or about Rp 784,000 after service and tax, around Rp 392,000 per person before drinks.

An evening in Ubud

Rayjin Ubud fits well at the end of a typical Ubud day, after the rice terraces at Tegallalang, the Campuhan Ridge Walk or an afternoon in the centre, and it doesn’t require driving out of town. Central Ubud restaurants fill up in the evening, especially in the dry season (roughly April to October) and on weekends, so book dinner ahead. The dining room is fully indoors, which makes it a reliable choice on rainy nights. The restaurant opens at 12 PM, and lunch is the easier time to get a counter seat at short notice.

Getting there

Rayjin Ubud is on Jl. Hanoman, one of central Ubud’s main streets, running south from Jl. Raya Ubud. Many central hotels are within walking distance. Evening traffic in the centre is slow, so a drop-off is easier than trying to park. Get directions on Google Maps.
